To join Artelier, you need to be invited by either a current member or one of our international partners who know you.

This is for two reasons:

• Artelier is a free site with limited resources, and we want to make sure that only professional visual artists are using it. This helps us keep the site free and makes for a better experience when using the site.
• If everyone on the site is known by someone else on the site, it makes the experience of going on exchange safer for both members and their studios. In this way, we can use the trusted networks of artists to ensure everyone has a good time on exchange.

Of course, inviting your artist friends on to the site also means that there's more chance of finding exchanges with the studio equipment that you need, and that you end up in a network of other artists when you finally get where you're going. It helps the network on Artelier to become better established more quickly and to grow at a manageable rate.
